Staten Island Creative Community Presents Art by the Ferry  

The exhibit at Hub 17 Gallery, 73 Wave Street will run from Friday, May 29th through Saturday, June 27th. The gallery will be open Thursday through Sunday, 2 – 8 pm with the exception of Sunday, June 7th when it will be closed to the public. Weather permitting, craft tables can be set up in the front courtyard during regular gallery hours.

Local artist Andrea Phillips opens her home studio, brimming with original artwork. Homemade crafts, including quilted handbags and switchplates, as well as art, are available for sale.

4:30pm: Talk on Spirituality/Live Music: Join Andrea as she talks through spirituality/yoga practice.

Cultural Feedback Project  

TELLING OUR STORIES FROM THE INSIDE OUT-AN ARCHIVE OF WEST AFRICAN CULTURAL HERITAGE ON STATEN ISLAND
 
Staten Island Arts is proud to present their first ever “Cultural Feedback Project” in partnership with the Alan Lomax Archive, United States Sierra Leone Association, Ghanaian Association of Staten Island and NAPELA. The Cultural Feedback Project exhibition is the culmination of over 100 hours of video, 2,500 photographs and more than 40 hours of audio interviews presented in the Cultural Lounge on March 26, 2015. Throughout the Spring & Summer, the folklife series will feature various indigenous presentations including a Ghanaian Kente cloth weaving demonstration, African Story Circle, a children’s dance showcase and an evening of short films by West African directors in collaboration with the African Film Festival of New York. The Cultural Feedback Project is supported with generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, Department of Cultural Affairs, Con Edison and the Nicotra Foundation.

SHARP Opening Reception & Exhibit: Sonia Louise Davis & Stephanie Lindquist  

Presenting new exhibits by emerging artists participating in the SHARP / Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program. Stephanie Lindquist creates collages, sculptures and public art. She received a B.A. in Visual Arts and Urban Studies from Columbia University, where she was awarded a Mellon May Undergraduate Fellowship. From 2012 to 2013 she was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome.  Sonia Louise Davis works with a large format view camera in site-specific and community-based projects. Her work has been exhibited at the Bronx Museum of Art, En Foco and Rush Arts’ Corridor Gallery among other spaces. Davis studied at Wesleyan University.
